Cambodia Barista Championship 2016

Back in August, after a random conversation among me and the colleagues about the upcoming barista competition, with all the supports from them i eventually decided to take part in the 2016 Cambodia Barista Championship. Of course i knew this decision that I made won’t be easy, but i believe gaining experience is what mattered the most to me, and also getting more exposure in order to promote our cafe as well. Since then, my coach and i have started the intensive training for 2 months. From choosing the coffee beans, to trying out different ingredients in creating the signature drink, and endless speech and routine practices.

In late September, i was lucky enough to passed through the preliminary round which was held in Kofi showroom at Phnom Penh and made it into Top 12 out of 45 contestants from around the country.

During the CAMHOTEL CAMFOOD '16 Exhibition which took place at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre from 20th to 22nd of October, I've won the title of 2016 Cambodia Barista Champion after competed through Semi Final and Final Round. I never thought this day would ever come true, especially on that particular moment. But most of all, what I had gained most valuable was the process and the journey, and it was truly an amazing experience to compete alongside so many talented baristas in Cambodia.

Besides the great experience, i've also made a lot of new friends along this journey. I believe its never about winning or losing, instead, it’s another stage of discovering your own capabilities, taking chances and improving oneself, which is something that comes unexpectedly. Thanks to the people whom I’ve met, the people who supported me from the start, and last but not least, cheers to the coffee culture in Cambodia :)
